Lessons Learned

Reducing Poverty

5.2 million people have Alzheimer's disease in the United States. Every 71 seconds someone develops Alzheimer's. By mid century it will be every 33 seconds. The annual cost is $148 Billion. Of the 77 million baby boomers, 10 million are projected to get it.The current infrastructure is already stressed. We need more nurses, aides, home health aides, nursing homes with dedicated Alzheimer's units and much more funding.

I have developed a detailed presentation based on what my two sisters and I went through from the time Mom was diagnosed until she died in September 2007. It covers from how do you know, to administrative items like preparing wills and Power of Attorney, to the Nursing Home decision and what we all can do, from improving our diets, exercising more, writing our congressman to increase funding and volunteering in Nursing Homes.
